Raise Flood Awareness with These Earth Day Activities for Kids

Climate change has increased our flood risk due to rising sea levels and more intense storms. We may be isolated at the moment, but we’re all on this planet together.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, ASFPM wants to help your kids celebrate Earth Day with these fun yet educational activities.

Visit our K-12 Flood Education Resources page, part of the Flood Science Center website, to see the collection of activities and course materials available. Activities are segmented by grade level and you can filter further by flood type or do a keyword search.

Many of the activities include multimedia elements, games, and other types of interactive activities. A few we’d like to highlight include Operation Water Festival, developed by the city of Boulder, CO, Here are 50 ways to celebrate 50 years of Earth Day , a comic book created by the Arlington, TX  Stormwater Management Division, and Don’t Flood the Fidgets, a game from PBS.

Who knows, the activities curated on the K-12 Flood Education Resources page may just inspire the next generation of floodplain managers.
