Policy & Advocacy

Overview

ASFPM works hard to advance the objectives of floodplain management at the national level and bring the perspective of the working floodplain manager to Washington. Since the inception of the National Flood Insurance, the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (and other FEMA mitigation programs), ASFPM has worked with national policy makers whether it be with Congress, agency officials, think tanks, oversight agencies, and partners to make a difference!

ASFPM also weighs in on state and local policy issues. When requested, policy staff can review policy proposals from state and local government governing bodies and provide analysis, comments and suggestions to floodplain regulators or Chapters.

ASFPM makes it easy for our members to also contribute to the national policy discussion through ASFPM Engage!, your direct link to national legislators. We also provide tools and resources to help you advocate on issues at the local, state and national levels.
