Maryland Association of Floodplain and Stormwater Managers Named 2022 Outstanding Chapter

This award recognizes an ASFPM chapter and their exemplary practices and activities that deserve national recognition. It seeks to acknowledge distinguished works by a chapter in going above and beyond its mission in a way that can be shared and replicated by other ASFPM chapters.

Whether it’s providing the floodplain management and stormwater management communities with professional development and networking opportunities or providing local educators and community organizations with flood risk education materials or advocating for effective policy, Maryland Association of Floodplain and Stormwater Managers has become the go-to resource throughout the state.

Some of its most recent activities include:

  • Collaborating with a resilience partnership organization that provides provide technical assistance, outreach and education, and support to local governments and homeowners.
  • Working with the state to establish a Flood Awareness Month, including a proclamation of the governor and a robust outreach campaign centered around the theme of “Know Your Risk. Reduce Your Risk, Insure Your Risk”
  • Publishing an educational Youth Activity Booklet complete with illustrations from a local artist and featuring messages that promote awareness of floodplain and stormwater issues.
  • Supporting members with fall and spring conferences, lunch-and-learns, and monthly communications.
