ASFPM Comments on NBC News Fleecing of America

The March 16th broadcast of NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams did a Fleecing of America report on “How some Americans are being FORCED to buy flood insurance”. This report expressed some concerns with FEMA and the NFIP for flood maps that could end up requiring flood insurance on some new properties. FEMA is currently in the process of updating the nation’s flood hazard maps so that they will more accurately depict current flood risk. These new maps will portray the true flood risk and hence may require flood insurance for some properties that were not previously shown to be at risk.
