Prepare Now for FEMA’s FY 2024 Flood Mitigation Assistance Grant Cycle

Now is the perfect time to begin preparing for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2024 Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) grant cycle. While the official Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) will be released later this year, we encourage you to begin preparing your applications today.

Key Highlights:

There is $600 million available for this grant cycle, and FEMA will allocate these funds across three primary categories:

  • Capability and Capacity Building (C&CB) Activities: Up to $60 million for planning, technical assistance, and project scoping.
  • Localized Flood Risk Reduction Projects: Up to $420 million to reduce community flood risk and support National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) sustainability.
  • Individual Flood Mitigation Projects: At least $120 million to mitigate flood risks for individual NFIP-insured buildings.

New Scoring Advantage: Projects under C&CB that propose Repetitive Loss Strategies and incorporate Substantial Damage procedures will receive additional points during scoring.

Maximize Your Funding: Eligible applicants and subapplicants submitting localized flood risk reduction projects for funding should also consider applying to the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program to maximize access to our Hazard Mitigation Assistance funding.

What’s New for FY 2024? On Sept. 9, 2024, FEMA’s Floodplain Management and Protection of Wetlands Regulations and new policy went into effect and incorporate Updates to the Floodplain Management and Protection of Wetlands Regulations To Implement the Federal Flood Risk Management Standard into the FY24 grant cycle.
