Executive Order Issued on State and Local Preparedness
As many of you know, the Trump Administration issued a FEMA-related Executive Order last night titled Achieving Efficiency Through State and Local Preparedness.
ASFPM is still digesting exactly what this EO means and how it will be operationalized. The policy objectives in Section 2 of the order are encouraging and ASFPM has long supported the belief that state, territories and local communities should take a more active role in their preparedness and resilience. We also strongly advocate for streamlining government policies and programs to make them more effective and efficient.
Of course, the devil is in the details and how exactly this order will be carried out remains to be seen. It is our hope that the administration is willing to listen to feedback and take recommendations from the practitioner community, especially on the complexity of programs.
