#GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement that was created in 2012 and was born out of a simple idea: #GivingTuesday is a day that encourages people to do good.

During the past nine years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity, targeted at a myriad of causes that otherwise would go unfunded.

#GivingTuesday is held annually the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, which this year is November 30. Non-profit organizations use social media to tell their stories and inspire donors to give on that day. Donors in turn use their own social media platforms to share why they give and encourage friends, family, and colleagues to do the same.

In 2018, because of our generous donors, the ASFPM Foundation awarded its first Future Leaders Scholarship to Jesus Mulgado, an engineering student at Arizona State University. Jesus completed his master’s degree and is currently working as a flood risk management professional with Atkins in Arizona. The current Future Leaders Scholarship recipient is Elizabeth Lacey, a civil engineering student at Colorado State University. To learn more about Jesus and Elizabeth, please visit the foundation website.

The foundation wants to help our ‘best and brightest’ achieve their flood risk management professional dreams. The ASFPM Foundation will again be participating in #GivingTuesday, and all donations to the Foundation on #GivingTuesday will be directed to the Future Leaders Scholarship fund. Our goal for 2021 is to designate $30,000 for the scholarship fund, so please mark your calendars to donate to the foundation on #GivingTuesday to help us achieve this important goal!
