Introducing The FloodZone: ASFPM’s New Hub for Connection, Collaboration, and Conversation

Welcome to the FloodZone online community.

ASFPM has launched The FloodZone, a new professional social community dedicated to floodplain management professionals.

The Flood Zone is designed to help individuals:

  • Connect with peers and colleagues
  • Participate in professional discussions
  • Share resources and best practices
  • Stay informed on community conversations
  • Achieve professional growth through mentorship

Getting Started on FloodZone

To help you get acquainted with the FloodZone platform, here’s a quick overview of the key features you’ll see once you log in:

Social Feed
Located on the left side of your screen, the Social Feed is a space designed for informal connection beyond structured discussions. It supports real-time, peer-to-peer engagement where users can create posts, join conversations, comment on content, and respond to other members—encouraging a relaxed, interactive community experience.

To create your first post, select “New Post,” add your content (photos, files, and videos are supported), and click “Post.”

Discussion Feed
Also found on the left side of the screen, the Discussion Feed offers a topic-focused  space for deeper conversations. Here, users can start discussion threads, share detailed insights, comment on posts, and continue conversations through threaded replies.

Creating a new discussion follows the same steps as posting in the Social Feed—simply select “New Post,” add your content, and publish.

Groups
At the top of the page, you’ll find the Groups tab. Current groups include:

  • ASFPM Committees
  • ASFPM Foundation
  • Emerging Professionals

If you are already part of one of these committees or groups, you will automatically appear as a member. Each group has its own administrator(s) and privacy settings, which may limit access. If a group is private, you may see a message indicating that membership is required to view or participate.

If you believe you should have access to a group, start by contacting the group administrator listed on the group’s page. If you need additional assistance, please contact Alicia Jackson at alicia@floods.org.
