Mission
Artificial intelligence is moving fast—from research labs into the tools floodplain managers use every day. Used well, AI can strengthen flood risk mapping, modeling, forecasting, damage assessment, and community engagement, supporting life safety and reducing property damage. Used carelessly, it can erode the public trust our profession depends on.
Established by the ASFPM Board in 2026 as a standing committee, the AI Committee’s mission is to empower the floodplain management community to transform AI’s potential into practical impact. We help members understand AI’s implications, identify safeguards for responsible use, and explore practical applications in floodplain management.
