FEMA’s Underwriting Risk
Insurance Division recently released a Hurricane Sandy Recovery Advisory 7 — Reducing
Flood Risk and Flood Insurance Premiums for Existing Residential Buildings in
Zone A. But ASFPM’s Director Emeritus Larry Larson said that although the
guidance is directed for how to mitigate non-substantially damaged buildings in
Sandy, it could be useful for areas other than Sandy also. He said, “The focus
seems to be on how to reduce insurance premiums since it was issued by
insurance side of FEMA, but used data and information from Building Sciences. Seems
very useful.”
