Funding Available from NOAA’s Climate Adaptation Partnerships Program

NOAA’s Climate Program Office has posted a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) announcement to support collaborative research and community engagement projects that improve climate adaptation planning and action that mitigate flooding and wildfire risks.

Through this NOFO, the Climate Adaptation Partnerships (CAP) program, formerly the Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) program, is soliciting applications for three competitions, with approximately $3.6 million available in FY22/23. The two competitions of greatest interest to ASFPM are listed below. The third competition is focused on wildfires.

CAP/RISA – Improving Engagement Methods for Coastal Resilience Planning. The goal of this initiative is to evaluate and improve engagement methods to support comprehensive planning activities related to coastal climate resilience and implementable climate adaptation solutions related to flooding and inundation. CAP/RISA teams will collaborate, across regions, to assess how a variety of engagement approaches can be applied broadly to coastal communities throughout the nation. (Approximately $800,000 available)

CAP/RISA – Assessing Tradeoffs and Co-Benefits for Complex Decision-Making in Communities Facing Coastal Inundation and/or Inland Flooding. The goal of this initiative is to develop new or improved approaches for identifying and assessing tradeoffs and co-benefits of flood mitigation infrastructure options in communities impacted by coastal inundation and/or inland flooding. CAP/RISA teams will collaborate, across regions, to enhance the integration of social, economic, and physical information and knowledge to contribute to climate adaptation and infrastructure planning that is equitable and identifies solutions that are fiscally implementable. (Approximately $1,870,000 available)

All competitions carry the same application deadline of March 29, 2023. Letters of intent (LOIs) are due February 1, 2023, however LOIs are not a requirement and you can still submit a proposal without going through the LOI stage. You can find more information about the programs on the Climate Program Office website.
