FEMA Seeks Volunteers for BRIC Virtual National Review Panels
The application period for the Fiscal Year 2020 Hazard Mitigation Assistance grants closed the end of January. FEMA is beginning the award selection process for the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program. The competitive grant program funds hazard mitigation projects that reduce disasters and natural hazard risk.
A virtual National Review Panel will score sub-applications. FEMA seeks volunteers from government partners and other federal agencies to participate on the panels. The panels will increase transparency into the decision-making process while enhancing partnerships among the panelists.
During the reviews, volunteers will leverage their mitigation experience and expertise to assess how applications meet six BRIC qualitative evaluation criteria. This criteria includes Risk Reduction/Resiliency Effectiveness, Future Conditions, Implementation Measures, Population Impacted, Outreach Activities and Leveraging Partners.
The virtual panels will run from March 8 to April 2. Approximately 100 panelists must be available for a minimum of one week to review sub-applications. FEMA anticipates that participants on the virtual panel will commit eight hours a day over the course of five business days. There is no compensation for participating on the panel review.
Individuals from a government partner or federal agency interested in volunteering, can submit their name, title, unit of affiliation, phone number and email to the BRIC Team at hma-ndi-bric-review@fema.dhs.gov. FEMA is accepting expressions of interest to volunteer through Feb. 16.
