FEMA’s Request for Comments on Levee Mapping Procedures
Deadline: January 30, 2012
FEMA has released its proposed new levee mapping approach for mapping areas behind levees that are not accredited. This was in response to concerns about the “without levee” mapping approach. A fact sheet, the Federal Register notice, the proposed approach, and FEMA Analysis and Mapping Project-Questions for Consideration are all posted on the ASFPM website for your use.
If you are able, please share this information with communities in your state specifically impacted by the Levee Mapping procedure. A list of communities by state where the levee mapping process has been put on hold until the procedure is in place can be found on the ASFPM website here. When sharing this information and to request comments, we suggest using a link, as many firewalls will filter out the documents since they are large.
There is a tight time line for submitting review comments. Due to the tight time line, and the holiday period, please be sure to submit your comments to FEMA no later than January 30th, 2012. If you are able to make comments and submit them, please copy ASFPM and send your comments to Kevin@floods.org as well.
Public Online Forums
FEMA will hold three public online forums to present the approach. Public forums will be held on:
December 21, 2011 from 1:30pm – 3:00pm EST
January 3, 2012 from 1:30pm – 3:00pm EST
January 10, 2012 from 1:30pm – 3:00pm EST
meetings will take place through an online webinar. If you are
interested in participating in the online forum, please email FEMA-GS@dhs.gov to reserve a slot for the forum and receive further instructions for logging in and participating.
