FEMA 2013 Application Period for FMA and PDM Opens Today!

FEMA has released the Fiscal Year 2013 (FY13) Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) Unified Guidance, and will be opening the application periods for the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) and Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) programs on July 19, 2013.However the application period for FMA and PDM will be very short!

The HMA Unified Guidance provides information on the three HMA grant programs: Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA), and Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM). All three programs share the common goal of reducing the risk of loss of life and property due to natural hazards. The last update to the HMA Program Guidance occurred in 2010. The Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 (BW12) directed FEMA to consolidate flood programs into one program eliminating the Repetitive Flood Claims and Severe Repetitive Loss programs while providing additional funds under the consolidated FMA program to mitigate severe repetitive loss properties and repetitive loss properties. The Sandy Recovery Improvement Act of 2013 (SRIA 2013) directed FEMA to streamline the hazard mitigation assistance programs to enhance HMGP delivery.

Information is available via the FEMA HMA webpage at https://www.fema.gov/hazard-mitigation-assistance. Please contact your State Floodplain Manager or your State Hazard Mitigation Officer for additional information on PDM and FMA and deadlines for applying.
