National Research Council of the National Academies – March 26 Webinar

by | Mar 21, 2013 | News & Views

You are invited to join a public webinar on Tuesday, March 26 exploring Levees and the National Flood Insurance Program: Improving Policies and Practices, a new report from the National Research Council of the National Academies.

Over the last few decades, the nation has experienced an increase in damages along rivers and coastlines, many of which were related to the performance of levees and related flood control structures, despite long-stranding efforts to reduce the impact of flood events. This webinar will explore FEMA policies regarding levees and the areas they protect and how levee-related policies within the National Flood Insurance Program could be improved, based on advice provided in the recently released National Research Council report Levees and the National Flood Insurance Program: Improving Policies and Practices.

Gerald E. Galloway, chair of the report-authoring committee will present the report’s findings and, along with other committee members answer questions from the public during this free webinar on March 26, 2013 at 1 PM EST. Register for the webinar here.

The full NRC report is available free online. Visit the project page for more details on the study.
