Overall context of Floodplain Management

The Certification Board of Regents recommend CFM® exam takers have:

  1. Minimum of two years of full-time floodplain management experience;
  2. Higher education degree in a related field; and
  3. Completed the four-day 0273 Managing Floodplain Development through the National Flood Insurance Program course, AND, FEMA 480.
Caution: Many exam takers take EMI 273 and then take the CFM exam immediately after and do not pass. While designed to provide basic training on NFIP minimum requirements for local officials administering floodplain management programs, it only refreshes part of what is tested on the CFM exam. We recommend the CFM Exam Study Guide for a complete list of preparation materials and sample exam questions.
