DETAILS
Objectives: In this 3-day workshop, participants will learn methods for simulating stormwater runoff from rainfall, and how to apply these methods to accomplish watershed study goals using the Corps of Engineers Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) software HEC-HMS, Version 4.2.1.

Topics to be covered include:
• Processing historical and hypothetical (design-storm) rainfall data;
• Estimating losses (infiltration);
• Transforming rainfall excess into direct runoff with unit hydrographs;
• Routing of flood waves;
• Calibration of model parameters; and
• Modeling runoff from subdivided watersheds.

Procedures and methods will be presented in lectures and applied with HEC-HMS modeling using hands-on workshops.
Students will work in pairs during the workshops.

Instructor: VERNON R. BONNER, PE, is one of the nation’s most experienced and knowledgeable HEC software trainers. He served 20 years as Chief, Training Division, Hydrologic Engineering Center; Davis, CA, and he has more than 38 years of water resource engineering experience in planning, reservoir system analysis, river hydraulics, floodplain management and program administration.

* Classes may be open to non-government employees when space is available.

CONTINUING EDUCATION
Certificates of Completion will be awarded to class members who complete the classes. The three-day class will qualify for 20.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) or Continuing Education Credits (CECs).
