This National Flood Insurance Program Review Course is a free, no-cost training for New Jersey municipal, county, and state officials, as well as the general public, looking to expand their knowledge of floodplain management. This course was developed and sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), Bureau of Dam Safety and Flood Control.
This course closely follows the FEMA 480 National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Floodplain Management Requirements: Study Guide and Desk Reference for Local Officials (February 2005). The course duration is a month and features both in-person instruction and online self-paced instruction. This course will be held in each of New Jersey’s 21 counties throughout 2017 and 2018.
NOTE: This course is for enhancement and/or a refresher of the material only and not intended to prepare someone for the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) exam. Exam takers should not expect to pass the exam without additional study, please review the ASFPM CFM Exam Preparation page for more information.
Free, but registration is required.
Register here. Pre-registration will be required through NJAFM’s website http://www.njafm.org/ prior to the start of the course. Although this course is open to the general public, priority will be given to government officials when registering. Please register for the county you work in or a nearby county! The training will be rolled to all counties by February of 2019!
