*This course is highly recommended for individuals new to stream surveying. Students will be introduced to the various types of surveying equipment used in the course, learn to use auto and laser levels, learn to take basic survey notes used in cross sections and longitudinal profiles. Students will begin with an introduction to the equipment and review field data collection protocols in the classroom. Field exercises will be incorporated into the course to allow students to use the equipment and work with Instructors to learn level surveying techniques. The participants will collect cross section and longitudinal profile data and instructors will lead the class through plotting the data. A combination of both lecture and field applications are provided.
Target Audience: This introductory course is designed for students with limited or no experience using surveying equipment in the field to collect data for stream related projects and used in the Level I, Applied Fluvial Geomorphology Course.
