Comprehensive Data Management for HAZUS-MH (L317)

This is a 4 day course

Boston, MA

This course focuses on the HAZUS-MH inventory. It is recommended for GIS analysts, database administrators, and others who will be responsible for integrating local data into the HAZUS-MH database structure. It will include an in-depth discussion of the methodologies that were used to develop and compile the HAZUS-MH provided inventory and it will identify the issues associated with using that inventory for purposes other than those for which it is intended. A significant portion of the course will be devoted to exploring a variety of strategies and techniques for updating both the site-specific and aggregate inventory with local data. Update processes for both the State geodatabases and study region specific data will be covered. The course will also help participants effectively prepare for their own data updating projects by identifying those inventory elements that have the most impact on the estimation of losses for flood, earthquake, and hurricane analysis events. Numerous hands-on exercises will be completed during the course.

Selection Criteria: The audience includes State and local emergency managers and GIS specialists, State and local planners, regional personnel responsible for mitigation and response activities, and other Federal agencies. A strong working knowledge of ArcGIS is recommended.
