DETAILS
In this practical two-day class, you will gain a working knowledge of WA's State's Stream Habitat Restoration Guidelines (SHRG) and a basic understanding of stream-based processes and effective approaches to stream habitat restoration. Topics include stream processes and habitat, developing a restoration strategy, techniques, and case studies. There will be a variety of speakers from state and federal agencies, as well as consultants from Interfluve, with expertise in channel processes and restoration techniques. A copy of the SHRG document will be provided at the class to each participant to take home. It can be viewed beforehand at http://wdfw.wa.gov/hab/ahg/shrg/index.htm.
Additional Information: Washington State’s Stream Habitat Restoration Guidelines (SHRG) was published in 2004 and developed through a multi-agency effort called the Aquatic Habitat Guidelines (AHG) Program http://www.wdfw.wa.gov/hab/ahg/. Primary agencies include WDFW; the departments of Ecology, Natural Resources and Transportation; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services and the Salmon Recovery Funding Board. SHRG currently represents the latest technology in understanding stream processes and restoration design. It was prepared for a wide audience: WDFW staff who review Hydraulic Permit Applications for stream restoration projects, biologists and designers from the public and private sectors who design restoration projects, and for planners and policy decision makers who review these permits. The goal of SHRG is to provide guidance for specific actions regarding stream processes and designing restoration projects.
