SCHEDULE Course begins at 8:00AM on the first day, and ends at 12PM the last day.
LOCATION Vero Beach, FL
DETAILS This 5-day course provides hands-on field mapping experience using Trimble mapping grade GPS units running the latest version of ArcPad. You will learn how to design, implement, and manage your field mapping projects using a geodatabase centric approach. Geodatabases are a vast improvement over older files types and are an integral part of the mobile GPS/GIS workflow. Other topics include ArcPad customization and post-processing GPS field data to improve accuracy. All GPS/GIS hardware and software are provided.
Objectives: • Understand how GPS works, its possibilities and limitations, and
apply this knowledge to improve field data collections techniques,
• Use a Garmin Map76CSx GPS device for navigation, and creation of waypoints, lines and area features,
• Integrate GPS data with ArcGIS and Google Earth GIS software,
• Use mission planning software to improve accuracy, and
• Generate meaningful metadata in the field and office.
Target Audience: Field biologists, GIS specialists and other natural resource
professionals that need to apply GPS mapping techniques to their field
projects.

Tuition fees are not charged to employees of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Tuition fees for all USFWS Service contractors and volunteers are the responsibility of the contracting agency or the sponsoring office.
