DETAILS
This 5-day course provides hands-on field mapping experience using Trimble mapping grade GPS units running the latest version of ArcPad. You will learn how to design, implement, and manage your field mapping projects using a geodatabase centric approach. Geodatabases are a vast improvement over older files types and are an integral part of the mobile GPS/GIS workflow. Other topics include ArcPad customization and post-processing GPS field data to improve accuracy. All GPS/GIS hardware and software are provided.
Objectives:
• Understand how GPS works, its possibilities and limitations, and
apply this knowledge to improve field data collections techniques,
• Use a Garmin Map76CSx GPS device for navigation, and creation of waypoints, lines and area features,
• Integrate GPS data with ArcGIS and Google Earth GIS software,
• Use mission planning software to improve accuracy, and
• Generate meaningful metadata in the field and office.
Target Audience: Field biologists, GIS specialists and other natural resource
professionals that need to apply GPS mapping techniques to their field
projects.
