Dam Safety Working Group - Publications

The documents and links below are being accumulated primarily for the use of the Dam Working Group created by the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM). Participants in the Working Group are asked to send documents and links that they think would benefit the Group.

This is not intended to be a comprehensive source of information on dams, dam safety or any related topics. These sources include information from agencies, organizations and others, and may have factual errors or express opinions that are not shared by ASFPM or the Working Group.

A Special Performance Audit of the Department of Environmental Protection: Dam and Levee Safety - PA Bureau of Departmental Audits, May 2008. 94 pages, 525 kb. The DEP is responsible for regulating and overseeing most dams in Pennsylvania. In addition to dam safety, DEP administers the flood protection program, of which levees are a common feature. This report evaluates the administration of these programs.

2007 State Dam Safety Program Performance Information Summary: Reporting Year: 2006 - NDSRB & ASDSO, August 2007. 340 pages, 2.9 mb. The objective of this report is to provide the raw data which was collected from the State Dam Safety Program Performance Information for the 2006 reporting year. This information consists of State responses to the combined annual questions asked by the National Dam Safety Review Board (NDSRB) and the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) annual survey questions. This report provides background on the data collection effort, shows the States that contributed data and when, and provides the data which was collected in both summary and raw data formats. This report does not attempt to analyze the data or draw conclusions regarding the data or the National Dam Safety Program.

Emergency Action Planning for State Regulated High-Hazard Potential Dams: Findings, Recommendations, and Strategies - FEMA 608, FEMA, August 2007. 40 pages, 585 kb. The purpose of this document is to provide findings, recommendations, and strategies for significantly increasing the number of Emergency Action Plans (EAP's) for state-regulated high-hazard potential dams. The recommendations and strategies can be implemented by a cross-section of stakeholders, including policymakers, state and local dam safety officials, dam owners, and state and local emergency managers and emergency responders.
