CFM® Exam Preparation
The ASFPM Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM®) Exam shall be approved by the ASFPM Certification Board of Regents. The CFM Exam is closed book, and is held in a proctored classroom environment. All exams are pass/fail; results are available within 2 weeks by mail sent to the exam takers home address. Results are held in strict confidence. The CFM Exam measures a person's knowledge of a community's responsibilities under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and related floodplain management topics. The Exam is based on the NFIP's minimum standards (your state or community may have higher standards); exam takers should respond to exam questions based on the NFIP minimum standards. See Exam Preparation Guide (below) for exam category/topics breakdown.
There is no ASFPM approved or endorsed CFM Exam preparation course. The best preparation for the exam is by studying the references listed on ASFPM's Exam Preparation Guide (below). Any course advertised as a "CFM Exam Prep" course is not recognized, endorsed or approved by ASFPM to prepare exam takers to pass the CFM exam, ASFPM is not responsible for exam takers who do not pass the exam after attending an exam "prep" course and no CECs will be awarded for participants of these training courses.
In the document, Technical References (below), you will find FEMA publication 480, "Floodplain Management Requirements: A Study Guide & Desk Reference for Local Officials" (an excellent reference to help prepare to take the CFM Exam) as well as other documents to review/ reference.
