CFM® Exam Preparation
The CFM Exam is closed book, and is held in a proctored
classroom environment. All exams are pass/fail; results are available within 2
weeks of exams returned to ASFPM, by mail only, sent to the exam taker’s home
address. Results are held in strict confidence. The CFM Exam measures a
person's knowledge of a community's responsibilities under the National Flood
Insurance Program (NFIP) and related floodplain management topics. The Exam is
based on the NFIP's minimum standards (your state or community may have higher
standards); exam takers should respond to exam questions based on the NFIP
minimum standards. See Exam Preparation Guide (below) for
exam category/topics breakdown.
There is no ASFPM-approved or endorsed CFM Exam preparation
course. Any course advertised as a "CFM Exam Prep" is not recognized,
endorsed, or approved by ASFPM to prepare exam takers to pass the CFM exam. No
CECs will be awarded for participants of courses with titles or descriptions professing
to help attendees prepare or pass the CFM Exam.
In the document, Technical References (below), you
will find FEMA publication 480, "Floodplain Management
Requirements: A Study Guide & Desk Reference for Local Officials" (an
excellent reference to help prepare to take the CFM Exam) as well as other
documents to review/ reference.
