The Association of State Floodplain Managers and co-sponsors have teamed up to bring the state-of-the-art in floodproofing to an area known not only for its natural beauty, culture, and friendly people, but also for its history of devastating floods. In recent years, the Gulf Coast states have taken quite a beating, from the infamous 2004-05 hurricane seasons to the ongoing excessive storms and rainfalls. Local and national experts will share how they deal with these coastal, riverine, and levee-protection issues. This conference will continue to build upon the previous triennial floodproofing conferences held in Charleston, West Virginia, in 2005; Tampa, Florida, in 2002; and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1999. We will focus on all aspects of floodproofing, including techniques, materials, contractors, current issues and programs, and the various means of funding floodproofing projects. We will also discuss measures that remove structures from floodprone areas. Presentations are invited covering all approaches currently used to floodproof buildings and innovative approaches being tested.

Poster Presentations

This conference and exposition for communities all around the United States who suffer flooding will provide relevant and significant information, share successful solutions, discuss concerns and road blocks, supply referrals for resources, and develop recommendations on floodproofing and nonstructural techniques and programs related to flood loss reduction. One method for accomplishing the information/success story sharing will be through table-top displays, which depict what communities have done that made a difference.

These displays will be set up in a prominent area so that participants can examine them at leisure. The form below suggests the kind of information to include in telling your success story. Materials and set-up of the display are the responsiblity of the submitting party.
