Exam Hosting Policy and Procedures

The following are guidelines issued by the ASFPM Certification Board of Regents regarding the hosting of the Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM®) Exam.

1. Upon deciding to host an exam, notify the ASFPM Office no less than 30 days prior to the proposed exam date for approval. It is suggested that exams be held in conjunction with a conference or at the conclusion of a training workshop. Governmental agencies or private sector entities may host an exam at their worksite upon approval from ASFPM.

2. A fee may be charged for attending a conference, training workshop, etc., BUT there can be NO fees or charges directly associated with taking the exam. Costs for the exam room need to be included in the conference or training fee.

3. When advertising the exam make sure it is clearly stated that applicants can receive applications from the ASFPM website and that all applications must be received at the Office of ASFPM at least 2 weeks prior to the exam for review and approval.

4. Send announcement material to ASFPM Office for review before printing and distributing. If there is to be a limit on the number of exam takers, determine the maximum number and include that space is limited in the advertisement.

5. For any training or review offered, all attendees must be informed that the information provided is for “Enhancement or Refresher Only and not intended to teach the exam”.

Exam Site
Room needs to be set-up in classroom style having adequate writing surfaces and large enough to accommodate twice the number of persons taking the exam.

Make sure room has proper lighting and adequate ventilation.

Tip: If possible, use a room that is in proximity to restrooms. Having water available in the room is also a good idea.
