FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

About the Program

The Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has undertaken a Floodplain Management Graduate Fellowship program since 1998. As a university-based study program, the Fellowship presents a broad based research opportunity to address the range of floodplain management and/or mitigation issues contributing to flood damage reduction. Topics for the Fellowship may be within such areas as land use and comprehensive planning, engineering, design and construction, materials testing, public policy, public education, public administration, sociology, architecture, law, geography or other relevant disciplines. This program annually provides up to $25,000 to a full-time, post-baccalaureate student for one academic year. It covers tuition, fees, research expenses, travel and stipend, thus allow the Fellow to fully focus on the project. The recipient may not receive other research support, assistance or financial award during the funded academic year, except for GI Bill benefits for education. Required deliverables include 1) draft and final reports on the research project to the Graduate Fellowship Advisory Committee, 2) an article for the ASFPM newsletter "News & Views" and 3) a presentation at the ASFPM annual national conference.

Regretfully, this program is not presently funded, so application are not being entertained at this time.
